1/27/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing child; located OK during coordinator briefing. None
1/29/06 Rampart Range R Report, at dusk, of a male ATV rider seriously injured in a rollover on trail 674 or 675. Cell phone contact was lost with the reporting party. During staging, two ATV riders rode into the staging area to report an injured ATV rider on trail 650. This location was about 9.5 miles as the crow flies from the original report. After further investigation, it was decided that this was a separate incident (see next report). The three parties from the original incident were located on trail 674. The rider involved in the rollover was not seriously injured and refused medical aid. His bike was damaged but field expedient repairs allowed it to be ridden out. Also participating were a DCSO deputy, South Metro FD and West Douglas FD. 10
1/29/06 Rampart Range R 7 members split off from the other incident (see prior report) to begin searching from Rainbow Falls. ATV and 4WD teams were deployed to check the trails and roads. One 4WD team searched all the way to the staging area for the first incident. Nothing was found and there were no other vehicles in the Rainbow Falls area. The reporting party called the next day to find out what happened. He verified the location of the injured party and that he was on the trail. This was an area that had been searched several times. 7
2/3/06 Larimer County S Assist to Larimer County SAR for a missing adult male near Horsetooth Reservoir. This was a CSRB mutual aid callout. Search was suspended by Larimer County SO and then reopened. Subject was found deceased by Larimer County SAR. He accidentally shot himself climbing over a fence while hunting alone. None

2/11/06 Larkspur S Diabetic woman driving home after dark called her husband to say she was lost and having medical problems. She was found incoherent but conscious in her vehicle, in a ditch, by a DCSO deputy. Transported to a hospital. Also searching were Castle Rock FD and PD, DCSO and Larkspur FD. 12 enroute
2/20/06 Summit County S Assist to Summit County Rescue Group; missing 23 YO male snowboarder. This was a CSRB mutual aid callout. Located OK a long way away, at home in Routt County. 2
2/24/06 Roxborough Village S Missing 10 YO girl, located OK during coordinator briefing. None

2/27/06 Jefferson County S Assist to Alpine Rescue Team; missing suspect from a robbery near Morrison, believed to be injured. Subject turned himself in, uninjured, to the authorities before the team was to stage the next morning. 4 enroute
2/28/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing child, located OK during coordinator briefing. None
3/4/06 Castlewood Canyon SP R Assist to Franktown FD; adult male fell and broke his leg while rock scrambling. Litter carryout to the ambulance. Also assisting were state park rangers and volunteers. 15
3/5/06 Rampart Range S 3 teen males called 911 to report their vehicle was stuck near a locked gate somewhere on Rampart Range. Their 911 call went to Elbert and El Paso counties before being routed to Douglas County. Subjects were able to get out on their own while the team was responding. 12 enroute
3/6/06 Franktown S Missing 2 YO girl; located OK during coordinator briefing. None
3/8/06 Larkspur S Missing 54 YO female motorist, possibly involved in an accident. Castle Rock PD located her OK in a motel in Castle Rock. Also participating were DCSO and Larkspur FD. 9 enroute
3/10/06 Larkspur S 15 YO developmentally disabled male did not return home after school. His parents called 911 after searching first. Team was notified after dark and after it had started snowing. Subject was located OK about 14 miles from school, with another 6 miles to get home. He had decided to walk home after school instead of taking the bus. Assisted by DCSO deputies and K-9, and Larkspur FD. 21
3/11/06 Stonegate S Missing 5 YO girl, located OK at a neighbor's house during coordinator briefing. None

3/15/06 Parker S Missing 13 YO male did not return home after school. Located OK at his dad's house during coordinator briefing. None
3/18/06 Rampart Range S Adult male ATV rider ran out of gas. His riding partner rode out to their vehicle at Rainbow Falls to get extra gas. He became disoriented on the return trip due to fog, snow and darkness so he returned to Rainbow Falls to call for help. Missing subject's abandoned ATV was located and he was tracked from there to an outhouse where he had sought shelter from the weather. He was treated for mild hypothermia. Also participating were a DCSO deputy, El Paso County SAR, Teller County SAR and Woodland Park Ambulance. 16
3/21/06 Stonegate S Child did not return home after school. Located OK on the wrong bus during coordinator briefing. None
3/21/06 Clear Creek County S Assist to Alpine Rescue Team for a missing suicidal adult male. This was a CSRB mutual aid callout. Subject was located deceased before teams were to stage the next morning. 2 enroute
3/23/06 Highlands Ranch S 13 YO boy did not show up for school. He was located OK near home, playing "hooky." Assisted by DCSO deputies. 3 at staging, 4 enroute
3/29/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing teen male. Located OK during coordinator briefing. None
4/3/06 Rampart Range R Adult female injured when her ATV flipped on Trail 679. Carried out to an ambulance and transported to the hospital. Also participating were Castle Rock FD and Jackson 105 FD. 10
4/3/06 Larkspur S Missing 15 YO "troubled" male; located OK on the facility grounds by DCSO deputies before the team arrived. 11 enroute
4/9/06 Rampart Range S 21 YO male became lost after driving away from his campsite after a nighttime argument. Located OK on Rampart Range Road. Assisted by a DCSO deputy. 18
4/11/06 Westcreek R 2 adult males reportedly stuck in a mudslide in their disabled vehicle somewhere west and north of Westcreek. One of the two was found OK walking down a road after dark. He was driven 5 1/2 miles back to his truck, which simply needed to be jumpstarted, and where the other subject was waiting. There was apparently a misunderstanding between the subject and dispatch with regards to the mudslide, which had occurred in the same area 4 years ago. Assisted by a DCSO deputy. 11
4/12/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing child, located OK during coordinator briefing. None
4/12/06 Acres Green S 8 YO boy did not return home after school. Located OK at a friend's house. The boy had told his dad he would be there, but apparently mom didn't get the word. Assisted by DCSO deputies. 13
4/13/06 Boulder County S Assist to Rocky Mountain Rescue Group; a car parked at a trailhead for a week belonged to an adult male who had been reported missing. The subject was located OK, camping in the area. However, there was a warrant out for his arrest and he was taken into custody. 3
4/14/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 2 YO girl; located OK during coordinator briefing. None
4/14/06 Highlands Ranch S 18 YO developmentally disabled male did not return home from school. Located OK several miles from home and school while the team was enroute. Assisted by DCSO deputies. 10 enroute
4/22/06 El Paso County R Assist to El Paso County SAR; an Air Force Academy cadet was seriously injured in a 200 foot fall off a peak at the Academy and two more cadets were left stranded and needed technical assistance to get down. The injured cadet was hoisted off the mountain by a Wyoming Air National Guard helicopter, which then landed on the Academy grounds. He was transferred to a Flight for Life helicopter which transported him to the hospital. The other two cadets, uninjured, were taken down the mountain on foot. 7
4/22/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing child; located OK during coordinator briefing. None
4/23/06 Rampart Range S A dirt bike rider reported that the other 6 members of his group were overdue, after dark, to Rainbow Falls. It turns out that they had ridden farther than expected, it got dark and they were low on gas. They pooled the remaining gas and one rider took the bike with a headlight back to Rainbow Falls to get a truck and gas. He returned to the other riders. The group, all OK, was nearly back to Rainbow Falls when DCSAR arrived. 13

5/7/06 Sedalia S Intoxicated female called 911 to report that she was lost. DCSO deputies located her along Highway 67. 9 enroute
5/13/06 Castlewood Canyon SP S Assist to Franktown FD. Hiker fell about 20 feet from the north rim, suffering a broken leg and other injuries. Litter evacuation to Air Life helicopter. Also assisting were state park rangers. 11
5/13/06 Rampart Range S 2 ATV riders were reported overdue. Both returned OK while team was enroute. 9 enroute
5/14/06 Surrey Ridge S Female with emotional issues walked away from a motorhome stopped along the Interstate. Located by DCSO deputies and transported to the hospital for observation. 11 enroute
5/16/06 Highlands Ranch S Child missing from school. Located OK during coordinator briefing. None
5/19/06 Castle Pines S 11 YO girl overdue from walking the family dog. Located OK during coordinator briefing. None

5/21/06 Rampart Range R Report of an injured bicyclist on the Indian Creek Trail. DCSAR located a 35 YO woman with a broken arm. While treating her, another bicyclist stopped to report another injured bicyclist. The second bicyclist, also with an arm injury, was located about a half mile from the first. Assisted by a Douglas County Parks ranger, West Douglas FD and West Metro FD. 14
5/27/06 Rampart Range R Head-on dirt bike accident reported to be on Trail 679. DCSO deputy located accident on Jackson Creek Rd. Injured party transported to the hospital by Air Life helicopter. Also participating were Castle Rock FD and Jackson 105 FD. 6
5/27/06 Fremont County S Assist to Fremont County. 8 YO male missing from a campsite on private property. This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. The child was located OK on the afternoon of the fourth day of the search. The search involved personnel and dogs from 13 SAR teams and the state Department of Corrections, aircraft from the Civil Air Patrol, Colorado Army National Guard, Flight for Life and the US Air Force. The Red Cross and Salvation Army provided meals. 5

6/6/06 Parker S Missing 76 YO male. Located OK in a supermarket by Parker PD. Also participating was DCSO. 1 on scene, 13 enroute
6/10/06 Rampart Range S 19 YO female missing from a campground. Located OK, on her way home with friends who she had called to come pick her up. Assisted by DCSO deputies. 16
6/15/06 Highlands Ranch S 10 YO male missing from school; located OK during coordinator briefing. None
6/16/06 El Paso County S Assist to El Paso County SAR. Missing 38 YO male, possibly in Cheyenne Canyon. Search suspended by El Paso County SO. Also participating were Arapahoe Rescue Patrol and Teller County SAR. 6
6/17/06 Rampart Range R ATV accident on Trail 649. Nothing found on arrival. During a search of the area, other ATV riders stopped and asked if DCSAR knew where the injured party had gone. Investigation found the injured rider at a medical facility in Woodland Park, having been taken there by other riders. Also participating were DCSO and Jackson 105 FD. 10
6/22/06 Castle Rock S Missing 82 YO female with Alzheimer's. Located OK during coordinator briefing. None
6/23/06 Rocky Mountain National Park S Missing park volunteer involved in a big horn sheep count. This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. Subject was located OK the next day. None available
6/23/06 El Paso County R Assist to El Paso County SAR. Male climbing near Mt. Herman Road on Rampart Range fell and suffered minor injuries. Also participating was Tri-Lakes FD. 11
6/24/06 Rampart Range S Assist to DCSO in locating an off-road, non-injury accident. Deputy located accident while the team was enroute. 8 enroute
6/26/06 South County Line S Abandoned, wrecked vehicle with air bags deployed and blood in the vehicle. Area was searched for possible occupants. DCSO investigation found the injured driver at a friend's house in El Paso County. 13
6/27/06 Rampart Range S Vehicle belonging to a missing, at-risk 50 YO male found parked on Rampart Range Rd. Subject located deceased. 12
7/3/06 Rampart Range R Male dirt biker with a broken arm on Trail 673, evacuated by ATV. Also participating were South Metro FD and West Douglas FD. 5
7/3/06 Saguache County R Assist to Saguache and Custer Counties. This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. 58 YO male climber fell several hundred feet while traversing a ridge near Milwaukee Peak. Severe weather hampered initial efforts to recover the deceased climber. During this recovery, 4 other climbers were reported missing on the nearby Crestone Needle. Personnel were split off from the recovery to search for the missing climbers. They were located OK, having taken shelter from the weather. During breaks in the weather an Army National Guard helicopter was used to shuttle personnel on both incidents. 3
7/7/06 Greenland S 4 teenagers lost near the Greenland Open Space during severe weather. All four returned to their vehicles OK. 12 enroute
7/7/06 Deckers O Flooding along Horse and West Creeks between Westcreek and Deckers. DCSAR members warned residents and campers along the South Platte River downstream from Deckers, performed welfare checks on residents stranded by the flood waters and washed out roads, and assisted with the evacuation of one stranded resident. This was a major county incident involving many county agencies and fire departments. 16
7/8/06 Acres Green S Missing 8 YO boy. Found OK by family members while the team was staging. 9 enroute or at staging
7/10/06 Greenland S A boy estimated to be 3 or 4 YO was reported walking alone along one of the roads in the area. The boy, 8 YO, was located at home, OK. He had been walking home from his grandmother's house, which is nearby. Also participating were DCSO deputies and Larkspur FD. 11
7/16/06 Rampart Range R Male dirt biker with a probable broken femur on Trail 675. Litter evacuation to ground ambulance, then to the hospital by Air Life helicopter. Also participating were Castle Rock FD, Jackson 105 FD and USFS. 12
7/17/06 Rampart Range S Occupants of a motor vehicle accident called 911 about 1:30 AM to report that they were lost after walking away from the accident. During the search, they called again to report that they had figured out where they were, called a friend who came and picked them up, that they were OK and on their way home. Assisted by DCSO deputy and Woodland Park PD. 8
7/18/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 6 YO boy, located OK during coordinator briefing. None
7/21/06 Castlewood Canyon SP R Assist to Franktown FD; 22 YO male fell from a rock near the falls, suffering hip and back injuries. Technical evacuation and litter carry required to get him to the ambulance. 20
7/31/06 Highlands Ranch S 17 YO female recovering from surgery was overdue from walking the family dog. Returned home OK while the team was being notified. None
8/4/06 Rampart Range S 40 YO male overdue from dirt bike riding. Located OK by a DCSO deputy while the team was enroute. 11 enroute
8/5/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 6 YO boy, located OK while the team was enroute. 9 enroute
8/5/06 Castle Rock S Missing 3 YO girl during a rainstorm. Located OK by family members while the team was enroute. 15 enroute
8/6/06 Rampart Range R Reports of possibly two ATV accidents on Trail 650. Both reports were for the same accident, which involved a male with upper leg injuries. He was transported in the rain and dark by litter to a ground ambulance, which then transported him to an Air Life helicopter for transport to the hospital. Also participating were Castle Rock FD and Jackson 105 FD. 15
8/8/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 12 YO male. Located OK, walking to mom's house, by a DCSO deputy. 11 at staging or enroute
8/9/06 Rampart Range S Assist to DCSO to look for several youths who ran into the forest when an underage drinking party was interrupted by deputies after dark. Canceled during coordinator briefing. None
8/9/06 Eagle County S Assist to Vail Mountain Rescue Group; missing male hiker on Mount of the Holy Cross. This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. He was located OK the next day, before DCSAR personnel responded. None
8/16/06 Castle Pines North S Reports of an elderly, disoriented woman walking through the neighborhood. An employee of the local school, who also lives in the area, provided information which led to locating the woman at home, OK. Also participating were Douglas County park rangers, Douglas County Schools security and DCSO deputies. 8
8/17/06 Highlands Ranch S 11 YO boy was not at school when a parent arrived to pick him up. He was located OK during coordinator briefing None
8/19/06 El Paso County R Assist to El Paso County SAR; double body recovery on Rampart Range. Canceled enroute. 6 enroute
8/19/06 Rampart Range S Unoccupied vehicle at a hiking trailhead after several severe rain and hail storms. Two people were located walking out OK, by a DCSO deputy. Canceled during notification. None
8/23/06 Ponderosa Hills S 18 YO male with medical problems walked away, in the dark, after a fight with friends. The search was suspended by DCSO based on investigation. 15
8/24/06 Perry Park S 14 YO male overdue from home, after dark. Returned home OK during coordinator briefing. None
8/26/06 Custer County R Assist to Custer County SAR; missing 60 YO male on the Crestone Needle; This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. Subject was located deceased, apparently from a fall. Also participating were several other SAR teams and an Army National Guard helicopter. 4
8/29/06 Highlands Ranch S 19 YO autistic male was several hours overdue from home, and it was now after dark. Located OK near his home. Also participating were DCSO deputies. 20
8/30/06 Boulder County S Assist to Rocky Mountain Rescue Group. 21 YO male missing in Eldorado Canyon SP after having fallen. This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. Search was suspended by the Boulder County SO on the fifth day based on investigation. The reporting party admitted he and his friend faked the call so that his friend the "victim" could disappear and not return to the Marine Corps. The reporting party was convicted of a crime and paid restitution. Criminal charges have been filed against the "victim" who remains missing and is AWOL from the US Marine Corps. The search involved 16 SAR and K-9 teams, several law enforcement agencies, National Park Service, Colorado State Parks and several helicopters. The Salvation Army provided meals. 8

8/31/06 Parker S Assist to Parker PD for a missing child, located OK during coordinator briefing. None
9/2/06 Rampart Range S 2 horseback riders called 911 to report they were lost in the fog and rain on Trail 800. They and the horses were located OK and were escorted back to the equestrian trailhead. Also participating were 2 DCSO deputies and 2 Douglas County parks rangers. 9
9/2/06 Rampart Range S 5 dirt bike riders, last seen 10 hours earlier, were overdue to their camp near Rainbow Falls. The riders had problems and two split off to go for help. The group of 3 were located first and then the other 2. All were OK. 14
9/3/06 Rampart Range S During the prior incident (see above), a call was received from 2 people who were lost in their vehicle somewhere off Rampart Range Rd. They had seen a sign for Rainbow Falls. They were located intoxicated and the matter was referred to a DCSO deputy. 3
9/5/06 Summit County S Assist to Summit County Rescue Group, 47 YO male overdue from a multi-day hike near Cataract Lakes. This was a CSRB statewide mutual aid callout. Subject found his way out on his own, OK. None available
9/6/06 Larkspur S 2 juveniles missing from a youth home. Canceled by DCSO when it was determined they were runaways. None
9/7/07 Highlands Ranch S Missing 83 YO with Alzheimer's. Located OK while team was staging. 3 on scene, 9 enroute
9/9/06 Rampart Range R Apparent head-on dirt bike accident on Trail 677. Both riders sustained life-threatening injuries and were unconscious when flown from the scene by two Air Life helicopters. Also participating was West Douglas FD. Two other riders, who came upon the accident, called 911, signaled the helicopters when they were overhead and led ground rescuers into the scene. These two received life-saving awards from DCSO. 11
9/9/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 3 YO and 4 YO, located OK at a neighbors while team was being notified. None
9/10/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing child, located OK during coordinator briefing. None
9/13/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 10 YO female. Located OK while the team was staging. The call came in during the first meeting with the team's new member class, hence the large number of responders. 42
9/14/06 Rampart Range S 20 YO female overdue from a hike on the Indian Creek Trail. Walked out, OK, after dark, to a house in Roxborough. Also participating was a DCSO deputy. 22
9/17/06 Rampart Range R 2 injured dirt bike riders, in 2 separate accidents during the Poker Run. Also participating was Event Medical. 8
9/17/06 Rampart Range S 2 ATV riders, unrelated to the Poker Run, and due back the previous evening, were reported overdue. Both returned to their camp OK while the team was being notified. None
9/21/06 Rampart Range S Bicyclist called home to report he was lost in the dark on the Indian Creek Trail. His parents called 911. The rider made it out OK without assistance, while the team was on standby. None
9/22/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing suicidal female, located by DCSO deputies while the team was responding. Transported to a hospital. 7 enroute
9/24/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing 4 YO male, located OK while the team was responding. 9 enroute
10/1/06 Castlewood Canyon SP R Assist to Franktown FD; 13 YO male fell about 25 feet while climbing, suffering minor injuries. He was located in an area that didn't require technical assistance and the FD canceled the team enroute. 15 enroute
10/5/06 Highlands Ranch S Two 7 YO males didn't show up at school. They were located OK, riding their bikes in open space, by DCSO deputies and a Highlands Ranch Metro District ranger while the team was staging. 10 at staging
10/13/06 Rampart Range S 30 YO woman called home to report she was lost on the Indian Creek Trail #800. Her mother called Roxborough State Park and rangers there called 911. Rangers searched and made voice contact with the subject, but since it was after dark, they waited for DCSAR to locate and bring her out OK. 20
10/13/06 Highlands Ranch S During the Rampart call (see entry above), a 2 YO child was reported missing. Personnel were diverted from the Rampart call, but the child was found OK while they were enroute. 4
10/15/06 Castle Rock S Assist to Castle Rock PD; subject who had passed out in a lawn after leaving a party the previous night was now missing. PD located the subject back at the party location, passed out. 10
10/17/06 Lone Tree S Assist to Lone Tree PD; 13 YO boy missing after a Scout meeting, located OK at a relative's house while the team was being notified. 1 at staging, 8 enroute
10/18/06 Routt County S Assist to Routt County SAR. Missing hunter after a heavy snowstorm. This was a CSRB mutual aid request on the second day of the search. The subject walked out OK as the teams were staging. None available
10/30/06 Highlands Ranch S Missing child. Located OK during coordinator briefing. None
11/15/06 Rampart Range E Assist to Denver PD. Homicide investigation determined that evidence might be on Rampart Range. 5
11/16/06 Parker S Child missing from school. Located OK during coordinator briefing. None
11/25/06 Parker S Assist to Parker PD. Missing 7 and 9 YO boys. Found OK, with a suitcase and backpack, a couple of miles from home, walking to Grandma's. Grandma lives in New York. Also participating were DCSO deputies. 8
11/26/06 Rampart Range S Despondent 36 YO woman called 911, threatening suicide, saying she was on Rampart Range. Teams were being deployed when the cell phone company determined she was calling from Woodland Park. Woodland Park PD was notified and located the woman, unharmed. 12
11/26/06 Rampart Range S A 3 YO riding on an ATV driven by a 7 YO were reported missing from their family's campsite. Someone from an adjacent campsite drove to a place with phone coverage and called 911. When this person went back to the campsite with SAR members and a deputy, the family with the missing children was gone. Interviews with other campers and riders in the area, and people in vehicles stopped at roadblocks, found witnesses who saw the children come back and the family leave. Assisted by DCSO deputies. 14
12/2/06 Franktown S 50 YO despondent man walked away from home after dark in single digit temperature weather. He was being tracked through the snow when he returned home, OK. Assisted by DCSO deputies. 6 on scene
12/10/06 Castle Pines North S 10 YO boy missing from a shopping center. Located OK by DCSO deputy while the team was responding. 15 enroute
12/20/06 County Wide O Two day blizzard shut down the county. DCSAR members with 4WD vehicles provided emergency transportation. 3 members were located in the county emergency operations center (EOC) as part of the county incident management team (IMT). 11
12/26/06 Perry Park S 25 YO man walked off from home, in the dark, not dressed for the snow and cold, after an early morning family argument. Shortly after sunrise he knocked on the door at a house a couple of miles away. One of the occupants was a nurse and let him in. She called 911 and the man was transported to the hospital. Assisted by Larkspur FD. 9
12/28/06 County Wide O Another two day blizzard shut down the county again, which had still not completely recovered from the previous week's blizzard. DCSAR members again provided emergency transportation and staffing in the EOC. 10
