3/3/08 Rampart Range S Caretaker at an unoccupied youth camp reported strange beeping sounds coming from the forest. There was concern that it might be some sort of personal alarm. During a search of the property in waist deep snow, nothing was found or heard. As the team was preparing to leave, the sound, rather loud, started coming from the area just searched. Consensus of opinion on-scene and afterwards with others was that it was some sort of animal, probably owls. 3/15/08 Southern Douglas County S A horse with broken reins and other damaged tack returned riderless to its barn, near county open space and other riding trails. Just as the search was starting, a 14 YO girl came walking down the road, OK, and asked searchers if they had seen her horse. She had ridden it to a friend's house from where the horse had broken free. The girl and horse were reunited. Assisted by Douglas County park rangers and Larkspur FD personnel. 17
3/15/08 Rampart Range R Just after the horseback rider search ended, the team responded to a report of an ATV accident near mile marker 8 on Rampart Range Road. Teams on ATVs and snowmobiles were deployed. They met up with a sheriff's deputy and FD personnel already on-scene. An adult woman had been thrown from an ATV and was complaining of neck and back pain. FD transported the patient by ATV to an Air Life helicopter which flew her to the hospital. Participating were Air Life, a DCSO deputy and West Douglas FD. 19
3/28/08 Highlands Ranch S After an argument, a 31 YO woman, not dressed for the weather, jumped from a second story balcony, in the dark, and ran towards open space. Several hours later she used an emergency call box at a closed light-rail station, about 5 air-miles from where she was last seen. She asked the operator to call her husband. DCSAR personnel with the husband notified DCSO deputies. The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Assisted by DCSO deputies and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) operator. 15
